Old Master Drawings at Liverpool Gallery
A new exhibition at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Liverpool examines why artists have drawn over the centuries and the role of sketching in the creation of artworks in other media.
The exhibition, Old Master Drawings: Guercino, Rubens, Tintoretto opens October 22 and runs to May, with 29 drawings from the Old Master collections of the Lady Lever and Walker Art Galleries.

Sandra Penketh, head of the Lady Lever Art Gallery, said,"Throughout the centuries drawing has been at the heart of art...This exhibition shows how artists made use of drawing for different reasons...from a humorous sketch to a highly-finished altar design."

Other artists in the exhibition include Luca Signorelli, Giorgio Vasari, Guido Reni, Claude Lorraine and François Boucher.
