Pablo Ganguli, Liberatum's founder and creative director has shared his thoughts on the festival in an exclusive interview. Here are some excerpts:

Why Petersburg?

St Petersburg is a visual feast in every sense. The splendors of the city amaze every traveler especially a visit to the Hermitage Museum, the largest art museum in the world. The Mariinsky is another excellent cultural institution - world renowned opera and ballet house led by maestro Valery Gergiev.

St Petersburg gave birth to gods of literature such as Brodsky, Nabokov and Dostoevsky. Anna Pavlova, one of the greatest ballerinas in history, came from St Petersburg who mesmerized critics and audiences the world over with her astonishing performances. Shostakovich was another genius whose home was St Petersburg.

Pushkin's fatal duel took place here too. This is a city steeped in so much history and with a vast cultural heritage. It has contributed immensely to European and world cultures.

St Petersburg's distinct beauty is that it is a regal city filled with breathtaking architecture - beautifully colored countless museums, palaces, churches, canals, waterways and theatres. How can one not fall in love with the Neva River's charm?

What should one expect to see at this festival?

A ballet performance at the Corinthia Hotel by Slava Samodurov, an acclaimed ballet dancer and choreographer who performed at the Royal Ballet for many years will be a special attraction. The St Petersburg Conservatory will be giving a musical performance during the Black and White Headdress Ball at the Corinthia.

In addition, Booker prize winning author DBC Pierre will be giving a talk on the influences of internationalism and the duties of literature in the global 21st century.

Also, the director of 'The Road' will discuss the making of the film. We will also present fashion celebratory events featuring designers Ozwald Boateng and Jasper Conran.

How will this festival be different from other Liberatum's festivals?

All of Liberatum's festivals are different from one another. Liberatum has a history with St Petersburg as it held an opera and classical music festival there in 2007. This time, the focus is more on film, art and fashion. The Ball should prove to be a riveting night of mystery, ballet and modern Russian culture.
