The Dining Room, in the largest of the thatched houses, was painted inside with a canopy of trompe l’oeil trees, giving the impression that you were eating in the middle of the forest. Le Hameau later inspired another “Hameau” at Versailles, where Queen Marie Antoinette so infamously milked cows and baked bread."
