Jean-Georges' Next NYC Restaurant Will Be on a Boat

jean-georges-iconoclast.jpgHere's some fun news for a gray day. Celeb chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten tells Grub Street that he hopes to open a restaurant on an out of commission Staten Island Ferry boat. The boat was taken off the route in 2007 and one of JGV's buddies snatched it up and came to him with the idea of a new restaurant on the water. Jean-Georges is looking for a space to park the thing on the West Side and still has to get permitting and finances together—something he expects could take a couple of years. But if and when it does open, it will be a lobster place "really, really simple, you know, with hammers" with fried clams, chowder, newspaper lined tables, a cocktail lounge, and (why not?) a marine museum.

Well Frying Pan, you have a couple of years before it's time to worry.
