New York Pavilion of Art & Design
New York, 2 November 2011, Art Media Agency, (AMA).

The Pavilion of Art & Design (PAD) in New York will open its doors for the first time, on Friday 11 November and will take place until 14 November. The choice of the date in American cultural and art agenda is relevant, as the opening of the demonstration coincides with the autumnal season of impressionist, modern and contemporary art along with design auctions in New York.

Following the model of London and Paris PAD, the show will also propose design, modern art, photography works, as well as decorative art works, jewellery and tribal art works. The new show will allow collectors to discover and buy artists’ and designers’ works from 1890 to today. In addition, there will be 49 international galleries exhibiting in the emblematic site of Park Avenue Armoury.

The historical site, an ancient military building, is entirely dedicated to arts and situated in an attractive area, close to museums, auction houses and galleries of the Upper East Side. The grand hall was constructed by American architect Charles William Clinton and the reception hall, along with the levels of the building were decorated with important 19th century artists and designers, such as Louis Comfort Tiffany, Stanford White, Herter Brothers and Pottier & Stymus.

Following the example of the Paris and London PADs, New York PAD also collaborated with Moët Hennessy to award a piece displayed during the show. The piece will join New York Museum of Arts and Design permanent collections. The aim of the prize is to help public understand design as well as decorative arts and to present new talents from contemporary art scene. For the first edition in New York, the panel of judges for the PAD Prize will be led by author and collector Adam Lindeman.
