Daily Times - Leading News Resource of Pakistan - Lok Virsa documents Charsadda city’s history, culture: "ISLAMABAD: National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage aKa Lok Virsa has undertaken a comprehensive field study and research to document the city of Charsadda focusing on its history, culture, traditions, architecture, lifestyle of the people, customs and rituals related to different celebrations and festivals, Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid told Daily Times on Saturday.Explaining the geography and history of city, Javaid said Charsadda was a district located in the west of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), some 29 kilometer away from Peshawar.“The city of Charsadda was originally known as Pushkalvati. Many invaders have ruled over this region during different times of history including the Persians, Alexander the Great, Mauryas, the Greco-Bactrians, the Indo-Greeks, the Indo-Scythians, the Indo-Parthians, the Kushans, the Huns, the Turks and the Hindus,” said Lok Virsa chief."
