Rare 17th Century Bible Found in Wisconsin - Tonic

An old Bible was found at the St. Paul Lutheran School two years ago, but it wasn't until recently that the church found out how special it is.

old-bible.pngMore than two years ago, sixth grade teacher Deborah Court found a 340-year-old Bible in the basement of the St. Paul Lutheran School inWisconsin. The community just found out how valuable it really is.

Church pastor Timothy Shoup sent it to the Concordia Seminary Library inSt. Louis and was told that there are only 40 other copies known of in the world.

Court was looking for old baptism records when she came across the 1,500-page copy of Martin Luther's translation of the Bible, printed inGermany in 1670. It includes detailed drawings and brass clasps.

Researcher Lyle Buettner said, "Each time I see an illustration like this, I just think of how beautiful it looks and how much of a labor of love it must have been for the person who actually drew it."
